LED lenses

SAVOSIL® means high quality silica glass lenses for LED.

LED’s represent the most rapidly growing light source in the world They have already surpassed conventional incandescent bulbs in luminous efficacy and it is expected that they will soon surpass also gas discharge lamps.

The LED is most of the time a flat emitting surface. The use of a glass lens in combination with the LED greatly reduces the well known phenomenon of internal reflection occuring at the LED surface and therefore increases the light output of the LED. Furthermore a properly designed lens directs the light to the place where it is needed, thus further increasing the illuminating efficiency of the LED. The spot of light created by the light source does not therefore fade out at the edges, but has a sharply defined edge, the sharpest of the light sources available today.

LED lenses

Evonik Cristal Materials offers one of the most comprehensive portfolios in the LED industry. We have a wide range of lenses made of silica glass with diameter from 1 mm to 60 mm and integrated lens arrays with complex design. In particular, we can incorporate any spherical, aspherical, cylindrical and even unusually configured decentered lens cell to create an integrated lens array.
SAVOSIL® LED lenses are produced with the SiVARA™ Sol-Gel Technology.

SAVOSIL® is silica glass with high transparency from 200 nm to 3,000 nm (only with chlorination treatment). That makes SAVOSIL® suitable for the new generation of IR LED that so far had to use the chalcogenic based lenses and for the UV LED. More in detail: SAVOSIL® lenses can be applied on LED in the following areas: 

• UV-A Wavelength 365-400
Applications: Counterfeit banknote detection, polymer curing, polymer hardening, printing
• UV-B Wavelength 280-364
Applications: Medical Phototherapy, printing, polymer treatment
• UV-C Wavelength 200-279
Applications: Water/Air Purification
